Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of New Zealand artist John Wolter in Interpretive Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from April 19, 2013 through May 9, 2013.  The opening reception will be held on Thursday night, April 25, 2013 from 6-8 pm.

About the Artist

JohnWolterThe art of New Zealand sculptor John Wolter is inspired primarily by the human form in motion. In his art, Wolter looks carefully at the intricate connections between music and movement, and how this comes to be expressed in the human figure, whether the movement is graceful, quirky, dynamic, or riddled with tension. Each sculpture is hand-formed as the artist merges various pieces of metals using hammers, grinders, torches, and welding. It is through this process that Wolter is able to bring to life expressive vibrant forms that celebrate the beauty of the human spirit.

Central to Wolter’s creative process is a lifelong love for music, which inspires his concepts and drives the execution of his art. Within each piece, Wolter hopes to tell a story and portray the human form and condition in a captured moment both physical and emotive. Indeed, the viewer cannot help but be drawn in by the characters depicted, as each figure simultaneously captures both the sacredness of the individual spirit and the universal human experience of which we all form a part.

About the Exhibition

This April, two inspiring exhibitions are coming to Agora Gallery, Interpretive Realms combines a thrilling sense of kinetic excitement with the detached ability to reflect and describe. The result is work that has one foot in the everyday world and the other in that of the imagination, elevating both to a new and interesting level. In Altered States of Reality: An Exhibition of Analog and Digital Photography, fine art photographers employ a variety of techniques and styles but each one manages to capture something intriguing and thought-provoking in their memorable images. In the spirit of giving back to the community, some of the participating artists are donating 10% of their proceeds from the sale of any exhibiting artwork to the Cameras for Kids Foundation, an organization which uses cameras and the teaching of photography to give underprivileged children new skills and confidence. The exhibitions open on April 19, 2013 and continue until May 9, 2013. The opening reception will take place on the evening of Thursday, April 25, 2013. Entrance is free and all art lovers are encouraged to attend to be entranced by these bewitching works.

DIA Beacon

A great opportunity to get out of the city, DIA is housed in an old biscuit factory on the Hudson River.  Easily accessed by railroad from Grand Central, the gallery houses pieces too large for most NY venues.  The location is a 10 minute walk from the train station.  Check opening times as they vary summer and winter.

Although there is a good cafe at DIA, as a suggestion there are plenty of lunch or dinner spots one station south in Cold Spring.

Many of us miss the taste of a fantastic kiwi pie, and Gareth the founder of DUB (Down Under Bakery) pies has been only too wiling to satisfy that need.  They have a couple of walk up spots in Windsor Terrance, Brooklyn, and in the Dekalb Container Shop Market in downtown Brooklyn, a quick hop from the city.  Alternatively if you don’t like to travel, DUB pies has a great home/work delivery service ideal for stocking the freezer or catering for a work or play event.  Support the great kiwi pie!
